Executive Director - Maureen Broughan, ssj
Sister Maureen Broughan is a Sister of St Joseph from Springfield, MA and has worked in education, teaching high school and working in college administration.  She has completed two master's degrees and has lived and worked in a Latino Parish for six years, from 1984 to 1990, and then went to Guatemala for 5 years as an Associate with the Maryknoll Sisters.  Since her return, she has worked in the Maryknoll Cross-Cultural Training Services as a program coordinator.  She has conducted cultural sensitivity workshops for seminaries, religious communities, parishes and dioceses.  She has also served as a consultant with congregational leadership on cross-cultural issues and has facilitated a variety of groups.  After finishing a six year term as Vice-President of her community at Mont Marie in Holyoke, Massachusetts, she co-founded and is now executive director of Homework House INC.

Program Coordinator - Jane Morrissey, ssj
Sister Jane Morrissey, a Sister of Saint Joseph of Springfield, has spent most of her professional life in the field of education. She has a BA from the Elms College and a MA and Ph.D in English from UMass. She has taught high school and college and now serves as Program Coordinator of Homework House in Holyoke, MA. Prior to working at Homework House, she served her Congregation in Leadership. She has lived and worked among the Latino poor in Western Massachusetts inner-cities for the past thirty-five years.

Education Coordinator - Joanine Carey
Joanine Carey is a graduate of Elms College with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. After graduating, she moved to Honduras as a volunteer for Passionist Volunteers International and spent a year working primarily with elementary school aged children in a variety of settings. She began working for Homework House in 2010 through AmeriCorps' TechMission Corps and now serves as the program's Education Coordinator. 

TechMission Corps Workers - Jackie Diaz & Frankie Quinones
Jackie Diaz and Frankie Quinones are Homework House parents who work full-time at Homework House through TechMission Corps, a program of AmeriCorps. They work as assistant supervisors during tutoring hours, as well as doing Homework House's neighborhood outreach in the communities where it is located.

Mary Pat Carr
, a Sister of St. Joseph, was an elementary educator in Providence, RI and Springfield, MA diocesan schools for over 25 years.  She transitioned to the field of social work and is employed as a clinical social worker/supervisor in an outpatient mental health clinic in Springfield.  She shares these combined years of education and social work experience with the youth and their families at Homework House.   Term: 2014

Kathleen Bresnahan Casey 
grew up in an established business family in Holyoke.  The family insurance agency recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.  As co-owner, she has worked to diversify staff and ensure service to the whole city as part of its ethos.  She assists Homework House with its business and financial matters, as well as outreach for support to the corporate community in the area.  She serves as Board Vice-President.  Term: 2013 

Dawn Ellinwood was introduced to the wonderful work of Homework House while Dean of Students at Elms College. Dawn was thrilled to witness how some Elms students were able to support Homework House in the early years through their volunteer hours and how this and a number of other college relationships has contributed to feed this program. Currently, Dawn works as Dean at Hampshire College and hopes to continue to build the bridge between her new campus and Homework House. Term 2013

Arley Ewald is the Financial Reporting Officer at Chicopee Savings Bank and the Chicopee Savings Bank Charitable foundation. Prior to joining the bank in 2009, Arley was an auditor for KPMG, LLP in Hartford, CT. Her primary industries of focus were higher education and real estate. Arley has a Bachelors of Business Administration and a Masters of Science in Accounting and Information Systems from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Arley was brought onto the Homework House board in the beginning of 2012. She serves the Board as Treasurer. Arley is also serves on the Board of Directors for Guidewire, Inc. Term: 2015 Mike Falcetti is a lifelong resident of Holyoke and his service to the community is extensive: He is a member of the Holyoke Community Development Committee, the Wisteriahurst Museum Association, the Knights of Columbus, the Holyoke High School Parent Teacher Organization, and the Save the State Armory Committee. Mike is acknowledged as a community leader, as a member of the Board of Directors of the Holyoke Public Library and Our Lady of Guadalupe CYO Basketball as well as President of the Parish Council, and President/Founder of the Churchill Neighborhood Community Youth Organization. Mike will bring his knowledge and commitment to his work on behalf of Homework House. Term: 2014

Jeannette Fernandez works in the area of insurance for Bresnahan Insurance Agency. A member of a prominent hard-working Latino family in the city, she represents their voice and their future. She also brings to the Board her knowledge of organizational skills from a business aspect.  Term:  2012

Lorraine Golio, Director of Human Resources for Mont Marie/Sisters of St. Joseph of Springfield, has over twenty years of experience in the field of human resources. Prior to joining Mont Marie in 2002, Lorraine served as Human Resources Generalist at various area health care systems.  Lorraine has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the City University of New York and is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources by the Society of Human Resource Management.  Lorraine generously offers Homework House her advice and expertise in all aspects of the human resource function.  She serves the Board as Clerk and Secretary. Term 2013

Madeline Fernández Johnson’s professional passion is Criminal Justice, the field which she studied for her bachelor’s degree. Prior to working in the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, where she has been for more than nine years, she worked for the District Attorney’s office for five years. Although she currently lives in Springfield, Madeline’s roots and heart reside in Holyoke, where she was born and raised, where she lived for 31 years, and where she has strong family ties. Madeline continues her attachment to her hometown and she has dedicated herself to working to assist efforts to make it a better place for families. She was a member of the Board of the Holyoke Community Charter School for two years, and she plans to join a team to work to clean up Ward 2 (South Holyoke). Madeline’s goal is to work with people in Holyoke dedicated to helping children stay in school, and to making their neighborhoods strong and safe. "I am happy to join the Homework House because our hearts are in the same place".

Jennie McGiverin is a school teacher at Kelly School in Holyoke.  Kelly School is in the neighborhood where Homework House Site 1 is housed.  Her understanding of the system and the children in the neighborhood is invaluable.  She is, also, the Chairman of the Parish Council , CCD/RCIA (Reports of Commissions of the Parish Council), Lector, and Catechist for RCIA  for the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe where Site 2 is housed.  Term: 2013

Andrew Melendez, a graduate of Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee, was one of the 51% of his class to graduate from Holyoke High, and is one of the rare models and mentors who inspire hope among the youth in his city. He is a humanist and humanitarian, and is already doing those things to make his dreams come true. Term: 2014.Attorney Jorge Neves was born in Portugal and moved to Holyoke when he was seven. Despite his busy practice and other activities which compete his time, he agreed to serve on the Homework House Board because of one childhood experience. When struggling with his elementary school assignments, someone tutored him and took him over the hump to what is now his successful career as an attorney. Term: 2012

Judith Ortiz after earning her PhD in Hispanic linguistics worked for 20 years as an international and cross-cultural educator, serving as the Academic and U.S. Director of the Center for Cross-Cultural Study, overseeing programs in Spain, Cuba and Argentina. In addition to her activities on behalf of Homework House, she continues as a translator and consultant in cross-cultural issues. Both she and her husband, a retired professor of Public Health, serve as Homework House tutors. She brings a breadth of understanding of cross-cultural matters as they affect business, education, and human endeavor. Term: 2013

Hector Salas was born and raised in Albuquerque New Mexico. He has lived and worked in Western Massachusetts for 20 years, and has been the President and Owner/Operator of ¡Auténtica! Mexican Restaurant for 11 years. Hector is the father of three and the grandfather of five. Hector believes in the potential of our youth, and that Homework House will bring each individual’s potential to the next level. Term 2014

 

Frances Welson comes to the Board of Homework House with many years experience as a teacher and administrator in alternative, secondary, and post secondary education. A Holyoke native, she had a long-term involvement with the Holyoke Street School as teacher, steering committee member and member of the Board of Directors; was co-director of Urban Ministry, providing resource, referral and organizing expertise to underserved areas of the City; and taught in the Holyoke school system. After serving as Assistant Dean, Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations at Western New England College School of Law, she joined her husband in the business of custom design, fabrication and installation of parquet, marquet and inlaid hardwood floors. She still lives in Holyoke and is currently a member of the administrative unit of Caring Health Center, a community health center, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Term: 2014

Aaron Vega, a Holyoke native, has been a Documentary Film Editor for over 15 years. His work includes editing for Ken Burns, HBO, TLC, PBS and others. In addition to film editing, Aaron and his wife Debra opened VegaYoga & Movement Arts in 2008. VegaYoga is Holyoke's first yoga studio and is located in the heart of the historic canal section of Holyoke at Open Square.  In 2009 Aaron was elected to the Holyoke City Council as an at Large Councilor where he hopes to help the city move forward in the 21st century. Aaron was brought onto the Homework House board in the fall of 2009. Term 2013
